São Paulo Metro issues tender for new line

The São Paulo Metro has launched a tender for the design and construction of Line 19-Celeste, which will connect Bosque Maia in Guarulhos to Anhangabaú in São Paulo. The contract includes the development of the executive project and civil works for the 17.6 km stretch, featuring 15 stations and a maintenance yard.

Under the proposed timeline, the contract is expected to be signed by the end of the year, allowing the executive project to commence. Civil works are scheduled to begin in 2026, with completion anticipated within 75 months.

In addition to the new stations, 18 emergency exit and ventilation shafts will be constructed, and refurbishment will be carried out at São Bento (Line 1-Blue) and Anhangabaú (Line 3-Red) stations to integrate them with the new line. The contract also covers the installation of low-voltage and auxiliary systems, including electrical panels, escalators, lifts, ventilation and fire detection systems, lighting, and water pumps.

Line 19-Celeste

Once completed, Line 19-Celeste will provide a vital link between Guarulhos, São Paulo’s second-most populous city, and the state capital. The line will have 15 stations, and its operation will be determined by the State Government. The network will include 31 trains, with an estimated daily ridership of 630,000 passengers. Commuters will be able to reduce their journey times by up to one hour and benefit from connections to three metro lines (1-Blue, 2-Green, and 3-Red), as well as potential future links to regional train services.

Stations: Bosque Maia, Guarulhos-Center, Vila Augusta, Dutra (Line 2-Green), Itapegica, Jardim Julieta, Vila Sabrina, Cerejeiras, Santo Eduardo, Vila Maria, Catumbi, Silva Teles, Cerealista, São Bento (Line 1-Blue), and Anhangabaú (Line 3-Red).
