Russian Railways has announced the suspension of all passenger transport services with North Korea and China.
Starting January 31 until 1 March, the passenger rail services via checkpoints at certain parts of the state border between Russia and China will be suspended due to the coronavirus. The international rail links with China remain operative along the Moscow-Beijing route.
The order was issued by Russia’s Federal Rail Transport Agency on January 30.
During this period, the international passenger train on Suifenhe (China) – Grodekovo (Russia) route, which is operated by Chinese Railways and passes through the railway border checkpoint at Grodekovo – Suifenhe, has been cancelled, as has the direct group of carriages operated by Russia’s Federal Passenger Company along the Chita (Russia) – Manzhouli (Inner Mongolia) route via the border crossing point at Zabaikalsk – Manzhouli.
The Russian company has also temporarily suspended all passenger rail services with North Korea through the border crossing at Hassan in Russia and Tumangan in North Korea between 3-12 February 2020.
Russian Railways announced that the passengers with unused tickets for cancelled trains and direct carriages booked and issued at Russian points of sale can be returned without incurring any charges or fees.
To prevent the spread of a new coronavirus infection in the Russian Railways takes additional anti-epidemiological measures at the stations and in trains. The employees which are in contact with passengers are provided with personal protective equipment and skin antiseptics.
