The total value of the contract that Russian Railways performs for the modernisation of Serbian railway infrastructure is USD 941 million, including USD 800 million raised from state export credit provided to the Government of Serbia by the Government of the Russia.
Since 2014 RZD International, part of the Russian Railways holding, has been carrying out extensive works on constructing and upgrading Serbia’s railway infrastructure.
RZD International has already completed the reconstruction of the Belgrade-Pancevo section, railway structures within the Pan-European Transport Corridor X development project, and Resnik – Valjevo section of the Belgrade – Bar railway line.
On the sections where the works are already done, the artificial structures, earth works, catenary network and telecommunication systems were reconstructed, hence the speed increased from 40 to 120 km/h for the passengers and to 100 km/h for the freight trains.
Also, Russian-made DMUs were delivered to Serbia, as part of the contract signed by the two parties.
For the first time in Serbian history, RZD International has started the works aimed at raising the speed up to 200 km/h on the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad. This section is part of Belgrade – Budapest railway line, where the company is currently working on the construction of Serbian railway facilities such Cortanovci tunnel and the viaduct in a floodplain of the Danube river. The company also performs reconstruction of the existing and construction of the new double-track railway.
