RZD continues BAM and Transsib modernisation

BAM-TRanssib investmentsIn 2016, Russian Railways continued the modernisation of Baikal-Amur (BAM) and Trans-Siberian railways. Within the project, 116.6 km (including 71.3 km of station tracks and 45 km of second main track) were built and 1200 km of railway tracks were rehabilitated. In addition, the company has completed the excavation works on Baikal tunnel in length of 6.7 km.
Last year, RZD commissioned 7 stations and two double-track rail sections in a total length of 30.2 km, the bridge across Bureya River as well as other 11 small bridges. In addition, locomotive facilities were commissioned and for 2017, the company plans to invest RUB 95.8 billion (USD 1.58 billion) for the development of 693 facilities.
In 2013, RZD announced a set of priority actions for the development of railway network in the Far East. The goal is to eliminate the bottlenecks of the network and to increase the capacity to 66.8 million tons per year until 2020.
The total value of the investment is RUB 562.4 billion (more than USD 9 billion), of which RZD’s investment is USD 5 billion and USD 1.8 billion from the National Wealth Fund. Currently, 42% of the planned funding was implemented.
