Architectural teams from Russia, Great Britain, Latvia, Italy, Armenia, Argentina, Portugal, Hungary, and Germany submitted 56 entries in a competition for the best design of three new metro stations in Moscow – Sheremetyevskaya, Rzhevskaya and Stromynka.
The second round finalists will be announced on 24 January. The jury will vote to select 15 teams that will work on the details of their projects for the three stations. This phase will last until 13 March, and winners will be announced on 4 April.
According to Sergei Kuznetsov, the speed of metro construction in Moscow has reached record levels, with five stations opened last year, and three more that will be opened on line eight (yellow line) soon. “We’ll organise competitions on a regular basis. This is the third one in a row for the Third Interchange Circuit stations to be built by 2020. Our goal is to attract the widest possible range of teams, to see unexpected solutions and eventually have exceptional projects, worthy of the unique architectural tradition of the Moscow Metro,” chief architect of Moscow Sergei Kuznetsov said.
