Russia to halve railway transport to Estonia

The volume of rail transit traffic between Estonia and Russia is going to be halved, from 12 to 6 train pairs a day, following a decision made in Moscow.
“According to my information, by last week’s decision of Moscow, rail carriages between Estonia and Russia were reduced to six train pairs per day, but all signs show the volume will fall further,” head of the Estonian Railwaymen’s Trade Union Oleg Tsubarov said.
The declining rail freight volume between Estonia and Russia will have a negative impact on all the people working in the Estonian transit sector, said Raul Toomsalu, a member of the management board of Estonian rail freight operator EVR Cargo.
In 2006, Estonian Railways received an average of 32.4 trains per day from Russia.
