Expected to cost EUR 5.5 billion, the line will fill in the gap between the Nîmes-Montpellier bypass to the north and the Perpignan-Figueras to the south. The alignment of the Montpellier-Perpignan high-speed rail line has been confirmed by French Secretary of State for Transport Alain Vidal.
In addition, the project includes two new railway stations which will be created for this project – one to the east of Béziers and the other to the west of Narbonne.
Key figures include 155 km of new tracks between Montpellier and Perpignan, 55 cities and 3 departments crossed by the new line and EUR42 million allocated to the financing of preliminary studies and the public utility enquiry.
The route, which will be used by passenger and freight services, will be submitted to a public enquiry at the end of 2016.
