“Until the end of 2018, we will submit major infrastructure projects worth EUR 2.5 billion to the European Commission”, declared Romanian Minister of European Funds, Rovana Plumb, during the presentation of the progress with the absorption of European funds 2014-2020.
“We submitted 14 major projects to the European Commission of which 13 have already been signed and approved and one is currently being evaluated by the European Commission. Of the 14 major projects submitted to the European Commission on transport infrastructure, there is a major project of EUR 2 billion referring to Gurasada – Simeria railway section”, pointed out the Minister.
The 14th project, the metro line 6, 1 Mai – Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport, is currently analysed by the European Commission who will shortly announce the exact amount through which it will co-finance the new project initiated by Metrorex.
“Currently, through the cohesion policy, Romania accessed EUR 6.4 billion and overall, together with direct financing, the direct payments that go to farmers, Romania accessed EUR 11 billion. We have launched financing lines of EUR 25.3 billion and projects worth EUR 33 billion are submitted. The EUR 25.3 billion represent 90% of the total funds allocated on the cohesion funds managed by the Romanian Ministry of European Funds and the Romanian Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration. Of the EUR 33 billion, the value of submitted projects, we have a EUR 15.6 billion contracting, the total value of the financing contracts that have been signed. Since 2017, the contracting share increased 10 times from 5% to 53.3%.
In April 2018, the constructors initiated works on the site of Gurasada – Simeria section (40 km). The tender was won by FCC – Astaldi – Convensa Consortium, which includes FCC Construcction SA (leader of the consortium), Astaldi S.p.A, Contratas Y Ventas SA.
According to estimates, the project will be completed in 2021.
The contract includes embankment and consolidation works, the construction of 17 bridges (of which three across Mures River, 27 culverts, four overpasses, three underpasses, civil engineering works in nine railway stations (including commercial halts/stops), electrification and energy supply works, as well as works for the implementation of the ERTMS traffic safety system (ETCS level 2+GSM-R).
