Romania to announce the winner of a EUR 700 million tender on Railway Corridor IV

On 20 February, CFR SA will name the winner of the tender estimated at RON 3.19 billion, VAT excluded (over EUR 700 million).
All five consortia and companies that submitted offers for the rehabilitation of Brasov – Sighisoara rail segment, sections 1. Brasov – Apata and 3. Cata – Sighisoara, with a total length of 86 km, qualified for the final phase of the tender after passing the technical offer evaluation phase.

We recall that in August 2017, CFR SA received five offers for the rehabilitation of this important section on the pan-European Corridor IV, the northern branch.

The following companies submitted bids:

– Astaldi and IC Ictas Insaat Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. consortium
– Impreza Pizzaroti & C SpA Italia S.p.A.
– Alstom S.A., Arcada Company, Aktor and Euroconstruct Trading ’98 consortium
– Societa Italiana per Condotte d’Acqua S.p.A.
– Strabag A.G., Thales and Swietelsky consortium

The financing source is ensured by the European Commission through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), 85%, and state budget financing, 15%. The execution works will take 48 months, plus 60 months for reporting flaws.
Railway infrastructure modernisation works for the two sections, Brasov – Apata and Cata – Sighisoara, will contribute to reaching the main objective of promoting sustainable mobility on Hungarian Border – Curtici – Arad – Simeria – Sighisoara – Brasov section, by increasing traffic speed to 160 km/h, reducing transport time, increasing rail safety, facilitating access for disabled people, introducing modern signalling and traffic management systems and improving comfort for passengers in rail stations.
The execution contract includes a wide range of rail infrastructure and superstructure works: railway embankments, consolidations, bridges and viaducts, culverts, tunnels, overpasses, roads, contact line, rail traffic, passenger information systems, energy supply, telecommunications, signalling communications, optical fibre, video survey, architecture, electric installations, sanitary installations, thermal and ventilation installation, bank works, signalling, environment protection. There are 11 sectioning points on this route, all fitted with interlocking – 4 rail stations, 15 stops, 2 main rail junctions and a double 660-m long tunnel.
