The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Volodymyr Omelyan, announced that in September railway passenger services from Kyiv to Riga, Vilnius and Minsk will be launched. It is planned that this train will initially travel once a week, and a new timetable will be prepared in December.
“The last year’s agenda, which was agreed in Lithuania, gave the result this year. We have the train of four capitals (Riga – Vilnius – Minsk – Kyiv), which starts on September 28 from Kyiv. We will have direct air service between Vilnius and Lviv and a number of other promising projects,” the minister said.
The new train service will improve the conditions for rail transport as well as the connections with other transport modes.
This was announced during the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Lithuanian Commission on Trade-Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, which was held on July 17, 2018, in Lviv.
Lithuanian Ministry of Transport says that it is also important for both parties to increase rail freight traffic. In order to attract more cargo routes between the Black Sea, the Baltic Sea and Scandinavian countries, Lithuanian and Ukrainian railway companies will jointly develop economically sound tariff policy and marketing measures.
The joint efforts will be aimed at increasing the flow of goods from Turkey and the Caucasus countries, and to continue to promote the successful growth of transport of container train “Viking train”.
