The tender has an estimated value of EUR 2.72 billion including 15 years’ fleet maintenance, which will be carried out by a joint venture between Renfe and the winning bidder. The first level maintenance will be carried out through a mixed company with Renfe Fabricacion y Mantenimiento.
The firm order will comprise 176 100m-long trains, each seating at least 900 passengers, and 35 200m-long sets. The contract will include options for 96 additional 100m-long trains and 24 200m-long trains.
The board of Renfe has approved a tender for a contract to supply 211 high-capacity EMUs for Cercanías suburban services.
The objective of this operation is to renew the rolling stock park to maximise transport capacity in the large nuclei of highly saturated Cercanías at critical points, such as, for example, the Cercanías de Madrid, the Sol tunnel or the Recoletos tunnel. For this, trains of at least 900 seats will be acquired (in the case of 100 meters), which represents an increase of 20% in capacity over the current fleet of Civia trains.
