Renfe adds new direct AVE train between Madrid and Barcelona

Renfe is introducing a new direct AVE train service between Madrid and Barcelona, reducing travel time between the two cities to just two and a half hours.

AVE S-106 trains

The new service, AVE 3131, will now operate on Fridays, departing from Madrid Puerta de Atocha-Almudena Grandes station at 1:00 p.m. and arriving at Barcelona-Sants at 3:30 p.m. Previously, this train only ran from Monday to Thursday.

With this addition, Renfe now offers a total of 52 high-speed train services on Fridays (26 in each direction), including 19 direct trains that complete the journey in just two and a half hours. The expanded service aims to provide greater flexibility, particularly for business travellers and those heading into the weekend.

Tickets are available through Renfe’s official sales channels, including the website (www.renfe.com), ticket offices, self-service machines, travel agencies, the Renfe app, and by phon.
