RegioJet has launched the operations of double-decker coaches on Bratislava–Dunajská Streda–Komárno regional line, increasing the transport capacity.
Bratislava–Komárno line, which in 2011 was one of the less important ones according to its performance, is currently the busiest single-track railway line in Slovakia. It is the only country’s non-electrified railway line where modern double-decker trains are operated, starting September 16.
The coaches were procured from DB Regio, which previously were used on Munich suburban railway network.
Within last 6 months, they both underwent demanding approval process to get all the licenses for operations on the Slovak railway infrastructure. RegioJet is the first carrier in Slovakia to operate this type of wagons and deploying double-decker trains on non-electrified train lines.
The route records constantly growing in passenger number. RegioJet trains carried a record 2.3 million passengers in the first half of the year, 50% more than in the same period one year earlier. The main reasons for the continuing strong increase of the number of passengers are the increase in the number of inhabitants in the new residential areas surrounding Bratislava and also the entry of RegioJet into the Integrated Transport System in the Bratislava Region last year.
