A new, larger Genève-Cornavin station has been officially reopened after undergoing a CHF 110 million (EUR 91 mln) renovation. The project will help to create the additional capacity and improved passenger flow Geneva’s main railway station needs to keep up with rising passenger numbers. SBB predicts that between 2010 and 2030 traffic on the Geneva-Lausanne corridor will double to 100,000 passengers a day. As part of a larger investment plan for Geneva’s rail network, SBB are also planning to build a new underground platform at Cornavin.
