Record ridership in Moscow

Moscow public transport recorded a 22% increase in the first half of 2019 compared to 2010, carrying more than 2.86 billion of passengers.
In the first six months of 2019, the average number of passengers used metro, MCC and commuter trains made up 10.9 million, which is 10% more than in 2010, a record-breaking number for Moscow railway transport. During the first half of 2019, eight metro stations were opened and around 4 million passengers have already taken advantage of the new four stations of Nekrasovskaya metro line on the section from Nekrasovka to Kosino, with daily passenger traffic making up about 50,000 people.
About 510,000 passengers use Moscow Central Circle on weekdays. In the first six months, MCC trains carried 70 million passengers. After the construction of the fourth main track on the Moscow – Odintsovo section of Smolensk direction of the Moscow railway has been completed, the number of trains has been increased and the headway reduced by half, up to 3.5 minutes in rush hours. With 123,000 extra passenger seats, carriages have been unloaded by 30%. Besides, Russian Railways has been preparing the infrastructure for the opening of the two Moscow Central Diameters, scheduled for the end of 2019.
Since 2010, the metro rolling stock has been upgraded by 53%, with 2,749 new carriages purchased. In the first half of 2019, 336 modern Moskva carriages started running on three metro lines and 552 new Moskva metro carriages are expected to be supplied this year.
The suburban railway fleet was also upgraded by 56%, since 2010, with 2,706 carriages being purchased. Of these, 270 started running in the first half of 2019 and 700 carriages are to be supplied this year.
In addition, 39 Ivolga 2.0 trains, currently piloted, will enter services on MCDs.
