RCG and LogServ extend their collaboration

LogServThomas Kargl, Member of Executive Board of ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) and the Managing Director of LogServ, Markus Schinko, signed a contract for a five – year extension of the joint use of dispatch wagons, the first collaboration of its kind in Europe.

The agreement has been in effect since 2016 and is it extended starting 1st April. Lessons learned have been incorporated, for instance ways to handle exceptional circumstances as in the case of a pandemic, where wagons may not be in use for an extended period of time.

In accordance with this collaboration, both contracting parties make available the wagons that the voestalpine Steel Division needs for its dispatch procedure. The used fleet comprises 1,400 wagons, of which 300 of belong to LogServ. This makes forwarding and pre–sorting between the dispatch areas much easier. The wagons’ standby and transit times on site are reduced considerably. This in turn has a positive influence on the wagon demands and costs.

LogServ dispatches about 5 million tonnes of finished products for the voestalpine Steel Division every year. A small proportion is carried out by the company’s own railway undertaking CargoServ, sending finished products to Italy, for instance. A significant proportion of high quality international transport is carried out by its long–term partner ÖBB Rail Cargo Group. As a provider of highly specialised steel products, the voestalpine Steel Division caters for its customers all over the world.

Cargo Service GmbH is a fully owned subsidiary of Logistik Service GmbH. The company is serving the rail transport needs of voestalpine Stahl GmbH and the Steel Division with the objective of achieving transport cost savings and improved transport quality. Cargo Service is focusing on the development of new optimised international transport strategies as part of a comprehensive network. In the 2019/20 business year, the railway transport operator achieved sales of EUR 37.5 million.
