United Wagon Company and RB Group have signed a contract for the supply of 4,000 modern container flat cars during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
The contract was signed by Timofey Khryapov, CEO of UWC, and Alexander Kakhidze, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of RB Group.
The 13-6903 flat car has an increased payload of 74.5 tonnes and a loading length of 80 ft. The railcar is designed to carry 20-, 30- and 40-foot high – capacity containers, including reefers and tank containers with a gross weight of up to 36 tonnes, which can be securely fixed to the underframe using 4 stationary and 10 movable container pins. Common and tank containers are placed and secured on the flat car in compliance with local technical conditions.
The flat car is equipped with innovative 18-9855 bogies with an axle load of 25 tonnes, which significantly increases operational reliability of the car and helps extend its maintenance interval up to 1 million km, or 8 years. By comparison, the common cars mounted on bogies with an axle load of 23.5 tonnes will have to undergo their first scheduled depot maintenance upon completing 210,000 km, or 3 years after construction, with the service to be repeated after 120-210 thousand km or 3 years.
The service life of the Tikhvin flat car is 32 years.
This flat car model has been part of the UWC Group’s product portfolio since 2017. The production line assembling the flat car uses automated and robotic systems to weld its load-bearing components.
In April of this year, the two companies signed the first contract for the delivery of 3,600 flat cars intended to carry high – capacity containers. Once all the agreements are fulfilled, RB Group’s fleet will be operating a total of fleet of 7,600 modern container flat cars manufactured in Tikhvin.
