Railway Days: Port of Galaţi elaborates feasibility study for intermodal terminal

“We are trying to implement projects to become an access gate to Europe and we want to develop the Port of Galaţi to meet traffic needs and to improve the quality of services. An important project including the modernisation of the port is Galaţi Intermodal Terminal, located 10 km away from the border with the Republic of Moldova. The terminal will have a shunting station, railway and road interconnections with the Industrial Park and the Free Area”, declared Carmen Costache, Deputy General Director – Maritime Danube Ports Administration / President – Union of Romanian Inland Ports, at the Railway Days – Wider Black Sea Area Railway Investment Summit. The operating capacity of the terminal will be of 300,000 TEUs and the safety and security systems will rely on the Shengen regulations. The project is in the feasibility study, its cost being estimated at EUR 134.54 Million. Financing sources will come from the state budget and CEF.
