Railway Days: intense collaboration is necessary to establish freight corridors

“Galaţi and Constanţa ports have to become a real gate to Europe. We have a strategy that would consolidate our position within the European and international transport system. We should not only focus on the modernisation of ports and of their infrastructure, but on creating new attractive packages of services. In fact, we need to approach a new vision to deliver efficient and performing services. We want to develop freight corridors to Poland and western Europe. To Poland, namely the ports of Gdansk and Gdynia, one of the corridors to be exploited is through the north of Romania (Siret)-Lviv-Krakow-Gdansk. We are talking here about the maritime and railway routes. An efficient corridor requires that every side involved would collaborate to optimise transport. We are talking here about the simplification of procedures and the implementation of the soft systems etc. If a corridor is set, collaboration and development of viable partnerships are vital for a performing and efficient transport”, declared Carmen Costache, Deputy General Director – Maritime Danube Ports Administration / President – Union of Romanian Inland Ports, at the Railway Days – Wider Black Sea Area Railway Investment Summit.
Carmen Costache presented the project for the modernisation of Galaţi Port, among which the construction of a new intermodal terminal which requires investments of EUR 134.54 Million. Currently, we are working to the port modernisation project which includes the construction of the intermodal terminal and of a RO-RO terminal. Development advantages are also generated by the Industrial Park located near the port and the free are. We are not limited in extending the port and its infrastructure”, said Carmen Costache.
