The European rail vehicle leasing company Railpool awarded Alstom a contract for the supply of 15 Traxx locomotives with an option for five additional units.
The locomotives will be manufactured at Alstom’s Kassel inGermany and Vado Ligure in Italy sites, and are expected to enter commercial operation in Norway, Sweden, and Italy.
“Ordering these 15 locomotives will expand our fleet of Traxx locomotives to more than 250, underlining our long-standing, close partnership with Alstom. We are also pleased to be able to offer our customers in Scandinavia and Italy additional, modern locomotives together with our proven full-service concept. All locomotives will be equipped with the proven Last Mile function, which significantly expands the range of applications for our locomotives,” Torsten Lehnert, CEO of Railpool, said.
In June 2021, Alstom has delivered Railpool the 10th Traxx DC3 locomotive entering operation on the Italian market.
Railpool is investing more than EUR 1 billion to expand and modernise its locomotive fleet by acquiring 400 electric vehicles for which four banks agreed to provide a grant.
In August 2021, the company has ordered 20 Vectron MS locomotives expected to be delivered in March and at the beginning of this year, an agreement was signed with Siemens Mobility for the supply of 100 Vectron locomotives of various types with a firm order for 70 locomotives. All these vehicles will be used for rail transport services in up to 18 countries.
To strengthen its activities, Railpool acquired KTG GmbH, a Duisburg-based workshop which was added to its workshop network which comprises three facilities at the most important cargo hubs in Germany. In addition, the vehicle leasing company has acquired ajax Loktechnik, a Hamburg-based locomotive maintenance company representing the second workshop location at the important cargo rail hub of Hamburg. All these facilities will remain accessible to all customers and locomotives.
