By the end of 2019, Istanbul will have a 489 km rail system network. With the construction of the 100 km metro line completed between 2004 and 2016, the total rail system network has reached 150 km.
As the biggest problem of Istanbul city which grows and migrates day by day, traffic density comes first. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, which has signed many projects to develop public transport, is continuing the construction of a 156 km metro line.
Thanks to progressive construction technology, the construction of underground routes will be faster than in the past. Thanks to the large tunnel opening TBMs used in the construction of Marmaray and Eurasia Tunnel, the construction of the metro also accelerated. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality aims to transform Istanbul into a city with a network of 1000 km of rail systems after 2019.
