Rail Baltica’s geotechnical investigations through Riga start

Rail Baltica’s geotechnical investigations will be carried out until September 2020 at the Upeslejas-Riga central station and on the Torņakalns-Imanta and Riga International Airport-Misa rail sections, in Latvia.

The investigations are necessary to obtain technical information on the composition of the soil and its physical properties for the design of the Rail Baltica main line and the development of sustainable technical solutions.

The work is carried out at specific points along the entire railway section where experts will study the ground conditions using different drilling methods.

The results will support the development of the needed recommendations the infrastructure design activities for embankments, bridges, noise walls, culverts and animal passages.

The research will be performed by SIA Intergeo Baltic, a Latvian subsidiary of Intergeo, an Austrian company.

Currently, for Rail Baltica in Latvia, design works are performed at the Riga Central Station and Riga International Airport. The main line construction works are expected to be launched in 2022.

The Rail Baltica global project is in the design process for 411 km and 233 km are being procured for design works.
