Metro de Quito, Ecuador, announced that tunneling works started on February 24. The first of three tunnel boring machines, ‘La Guaragua’, will excavate the metro line from the station of El Labrador to La Alameda. The tunneling works on 7.5 km line will be completed within 21 months
Acciona will construct the Ecuadorian capital’s first metro line, and since October it has prepared the the first TBM at its heavy plant depot in Noblejas (Toledo, Spain) and the other two tunnel boring machines, in Germany.
A total of three tunnelling machines will construct the 22 km and 15 stations of Line 1 of the Metro de Quito.
Quito City Council has awarded Acciona the contract to construct the metro for the Ecuadorian capital in a project estimated to be worth EUR 1.4 billion.
