According to data gathered by the Economic Information Bureau (KRD), despite a sharp drop in train travellers in recent years, the number of people who evade transport fares in Poland has remained largely unchanged. “The number of railway debtors has remained at a similar level for many years,” said the KRD president Adam Lacki.
Polish train operators are thus owed PLN 197 million (EUR 47 million) by 240,000 people who were caught travelling without a ticket. KRD says that as many as 40 percent of the fare dodgers listed in the Registry are people aged between 26 and 35.
