PKP Polish Railway Lines has announced that this year it will carry out construction works estimated at EUR 2.6 billion (PLN 11 billion), using the state budget and the European funds. “This is a record task in company’s history and is a huge challenge that will have a positive impact on rail passenger and freight transport services,” PKP PLK says.
Within 2018, PLK plans to announce over 200 proceedings, that include tenders for construction and modernisation works involving Czyżew – Białystok rail section (part of Rail Baltica line), Poznań – Szczecin and Chabówka – Zakopane lines, the reconstruction of Warszawa Zachodnia station, as well as improving works for rail access at three ports – Gdynia, Szczecin and Świnoujście. In addition, company’s plans include the installation of GSM-R system.
On 4th January, the company announced four tenders with an estimated value of EUR 479.5 million tender (PLN 2 billion) for the modernisation of “Coal Line”, on the section from Chorzów to Zduńska Wola (Chorzów Batory – Tarnowskie Góry – Zduńska Wola Karsznice), with a length of 165 km. This is part of Line No. 131, and important international freight route. Under the project, the stations and stops will be modernised and reconstructed. This year, the project’s documentation will be completed, and construction works will be carried out until 2022.
In January, PKP PLK has started the modernisation works on Drzeńsko – Kostrzyn section, part of the railway line connecting Szczecin and Wrocław. The EUR 38 million (PLN 160 million) project, financed from national and budgetary resources, includes the modernisation of five stations (Kowalów, Laski Lubuskie, Ługi Górzyckie, Radów and Górzyca).
Also at the beginning of this year, the company launched modernisation works on Olsztyn – Działdowo section (83 km of tracks), allowing faster transport services from Olsztyn to Warsaw. The value of the project is EUR 62.3 million (PLN 260 million) and includes the construction of new stops and improvement works on 12 stops. Works are scheduled to be completed in 2019. The project is implemented under Operational Programme Eastern Poland 2014-2020 with a 85% EU co-financing.
On 10 January, PKP Polish Railway Lines signed a EUR 6.6 million contract (PLN 27.6 million) for the needed documentation on Warsaw diametrical line modernisation project. As part of this project, three stops will be constructed. Within 26 months, a complete documentation will be elaborated, along with environmental decisions and analyzes necessary for the announcement of the tender on construction works and the detailed design. The works are estimated to be launched in 2020.
In addition, it was signed with Thales a EUR 165.37 million contract for the installation of ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 on the E20 Kunowice – Terespol section.
