Polish Railways intend to start the modernisation of 447 line in the first quarter of the next year. The tender on this project was launched at the end of 2015. Currently, the company in cooperation with operators and local authorities is trying to choose the optimal redevelopment concept of the line.
The variant supported by almost all participants involves the rehabilitation of the line within less than 2 years. As the parts agreed, the modernisation should be completed within 15 months, the shortest variant.
″We will request the future contractor to analyse its abilities in order to short the time-closing of the tracks from 15 to 12 months. This option will allow the line modernisation to happen in one and a half years″, Vice President of PKP PLK Andrzej Pawłowski said.
Works on the 447 line modernisation involves a 22 km section from Warszawa Włochy-Grodzisk Mazowiecki.
The project will help remove bottlenecks and increase capacity, primarily through the removal of speed restrictions and signalling improvements. In addition to the benefits of improving these sections themselves, the project will also allow for traffic to be temporarily diverted from the main Warsaw axis Warszawa Zachodnia – Warszawa Centralna – Warszawa Wschodnia in order to proceed with the works on this line.
The project is financed through CEF, and in February 2015, EIB provided a EUR 100 million loan of the total EUR 230 million financing.
