PKP PLK announced the tender for the modernisation of Ozorkow – Łęczyca rail section which is part of Line No. 16, from Łódź to Kutno (in central Poland). The railway line is important as it connects the Łódź agglomeration with the Warsaw – Poznań main line.
The project envisages the modernisation and construction works for 17 km of tracks, 2 bridges, 4 culverts and 18 turnouts. Also, at Ozorków and Łęczyca stations, the track system will be rebuilt, and the traction network will be replaced.
The modernisation of Ozorków – Łęczyca section is part of the “Works on railway lines No. 15, 16 on the section Łódź Kaliska – Zgierz – Kutno” project which will be completed by the end of 2022. The estimated value is PLN 121 million (EUR 28.3 million) and it is included in the National Railway Programme. It will be implemented under State funding.
As part of the Łódź Kaliska – Zgierz – Kutno project, works will be carried out on two sections. After the completion, in 2020 parallel works will be carried out on Zgierz – Ozorków and Ozorków – Łęczyca sections and the last stage will envisage the reconstruction of Łęczyca – Kutno section. The whole route will be reconstructed by the end of 2023.
Currently, on Łódź – Kutno line, trains travel at speeds of 70 km/h, and after the modernisation, passenger trains will run at speeds of 120 km/h and freight trains, at 100 km/h.
