PKP Intercity selects Stadler to supply 12 Flirt trains

PKP Intercity selected Stadler to deliver 12 Flirt multiple units, and after a 10-day objection period following notification to the losing bidders, the contract will be awarded to the Swiss manufacturer. The contract also includes the maintenance of the vehicles over a period of 15 years.
The new 8-car trains are to supplement the existing fleet of 20 Flirt of PKP Intercity, which have been in operation in Polish railway traffic since December 2015.
In 2013, the Polish rail operator awarded Stadler-Newag consortium a PLN 1.16 billion (EUR 271.6 million, July-2019 currency exchange rate) a contract for the supply of 20 eight-car Flirt EMUs. The contract included a 15-year period of maintenance services valuated at PLN 465 million (EUR 108.9 million July-2019 currency exchange rate).
The supplied trains are designed for a speed of 160 km/h and fitted with ETCS Level 2 automatic train control. The trains, which are totally barrier-free, feature first- and second-class compartments and a bistro. The generous, air-conditioned interior allows the passengers to travel in comfort. A visual and acoustic passenger information system provides travellers with relevant information
