PKP Intercity ordered 26 additional cars from H. Cegielski – Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych, under a framework contract signed in 2018 for 55 cars, bringing the total value of the contract after extension to PLN 697.3 million (EUR 163 million). The contract includes and additional option for new coaches, totaling PLN 223.8 million (EUR 52.3 million).
Under the agreement, the manufacturer will also provide inspection and maintenance services.
The new coaches will be designed to run at speeds of 200 km/h. Each new car will have comfortable armchairs, air conditioning and passenger information system. Each place will have access to the electrical devices and individual lighting. In addition, cell signal amplifiers and wireless internet devices will be installed.
“Each signed and implemented contract for a new rolling stock or its modernization allows us to improve the quality of services offered by PKP Intercity. So far, the carrier has concluded agreements with Polish producers valuated at PLN 3 billion [EUR 701.37 million],” Andrzej Adamczyk, the minister of infrastructure said.
The order includes two first-class coaches, nine second-class compartment cars, nine second-class non-compartment cars and three second-class saloons coaches, equipped with eight bike hangers and three second-class compartment wagons adapted for disabled passengers.
The new cars will be used for the Express InterCity (EIC) trains on 10 routes:
Warsaw – Krakow;
Zakopane – Gdynia;
Kołobrzeg / Gdynia – Bielsko-Biała;
Kołobrzeg / Gdynia;
Warsaw – Zielona Góra;
Warsaw – Szczecin;
Warsaw – Berlin;
Gdynia – Berlin;
Krakow – Berlin;
Gdynia/Warsaw – Vienna.
The delivery of all 81 ordered coaches will take place within 48 months, with the units expecting to be delivered next year. The cars will enter commercial services from February 2022.
In the last years, H. Cegielski – Fabryka Pojazdów Szynowych signed contracts valuated at PLN 1 billion (EUR 233.8 million) and the orders are still growing.
