PKP Cargo has published a Request for Proposal for the acquisition of new four or six-axle electric locomotives. The tender envisages the acquisition of single-phase, double-phase and multi-system locomotives. The manufacturers’ proposals must be submitted until October 19 and they should include the deadline for the commencement of the deliveries, production capacity – mentioning the number of the locomotives that can be constructed within a month and vehicle price in two variants.
The Request for Proposals was published on the company’s platform, providing more information on basic technical and operational parameters of the locomotives. Some of the new vehicles should have certificates which allow transport services in Poland and other European countries. PKP Cargo says that the manufacturers can submit questions about the locomotive tender on the purchasing platform if they need additional information to prepare their offer.
The company says that the procedure does not mean the locomotives will be bought at once, as is only for market research for checking the manufactures’ availability on locomotive deliveries. The RFP also does not include the number or the type of the locomotives.
“The new locomotives are needed as they improve the largest Polish operator’s rolling stock fleet. We are carrying more and more freight volumes and within the next years we want to increase our transport volume. Thus, we need a modern fleet to meet customers’ requirements. The plans to purchase new locomotives must be associated with the tender announced in September for the acquisition of nearly one thousand flat wagons which will be used for the transport of containers. We will have new wagons and we want new locomotives for our intermodal trains,” Czesław Warsewicz, the President of PKP Cargo said.
