Partnership agreed for a more connected NSW regional network

John Holland and Strukton Rail agreed to deliver a new era of service on the New South Wales Country Regional Network (CRN).

Under the partnership, the two companies would joint venture on the upcoming tender for the network, to ensure regional NSW is more connected.

“This partnership will help us to better connect our regions with global leading-edge technology. We want to drive innovation on the network in order to boost regional economies,” said Steve Butcher, the Executive General Manager – Rail at John Holland.

The Country Regional Network is owned by Transport for NSW and is operated and maintained by the rail infrastructure manager, John Holland Rail (JHR), under a 10-year contract that commenced in January 2012.

Since 2012, John Holland has removed 99 of 103 temporary speed restrictions, more than 1.5 million sleepers have been replaced along the network, more than 7,000 km of track has been resurfaced and 155 level crossings have been upgraded. The lost time due to speed restrictions has been cut by 50 per cent on passenger and grain lines.

The CRN links broad areas of regional NSW to interstate and metropolitan rail systems and in addition supports, customers transporting coal, grain, cotton, minerals and containerised freight to domestic and export markets.

The network covers 2,386 route kilometres of operational passenger and freight rail lines and 3,139 route kilometres of non-operational lines.
