Paris Mayor: not enough trains for the 2024 Olympic Games

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo fears there will be problems with public transport at the 2024 Olympics Games due to insufficient trains in some parts of the metropolis.

2024 Olympics GamesThe socialist mayor believes two problems will not be solved by next year: public transport and housing for the homeless.

“We’re still struggling, already, in daily transport and we’re not managing to catch up with the level (…) of punctuality, of comfort for Parisians. In fact, there are places where transport will not be ready because there will not be the number of trains and the frequency,” said Anne Hidalgo.

Responsibility for public transport in Paris lies with the Île-de-Fance region, but also partly with the French government.

Clement Beaune: Anne Hidalgo to make organisational proposals for 2024 Olympic Games

The Minister Delegate for Transport, Clement Beaune, was quick to react to the mayor’s remarks, accusing Hidalgo of “trying to create noise” rather than “participating in the eight strategic transport committees in preparation for the Olympic Games”.

Mobility in the Paris region during the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the summer of 2024 is a challenge for the authorities, having made a 100% commitment that access to competition venues would be by public transport, Clement Beaune stressed at the end of October.

“We would have appreciated the presence of Anne Hidalgo on the mobility committees of the Olympic and Paralympic Games if she had any transport proposals to make,” said Île-de-France region president Valerie Pecresse.

Nearly 15 million spectators and accredited persons are expected to attend the Olympic Games from 26 July to 11 August 2024 (the 33rd Olympic Games), most of which are expected to take place in Paris and the Île-de-France metropolitan region.
