Paris Line 11 extension inaugurated

Paris Line 11 extension

Paris Line 11 extension has been inaugurated on June 13, 2024, in the presence of the French Minister of Transport, Patrice Vergriete, French President of the Île-de-France Region and Île-de-France Mobilités, Valérie Pécresse, and the Chairman and CEO of the RATP Group, Jean Castex, among other local stakeholders.

The 6 km extension of the line allows residents of Eastern Paris to reach major hub Châtelet in 24 minutes, compared to 55 minutes previously, with 6 new stations spread across 5 municipalities.

The extension work was carried out between Mairie des Lilas and the new terminus at Rosny-Bois-Perrier station.

The line is operated by the new generation of MP14 metro trains which allow a frequency of one metro every 1 min 45 during rush hour, providing passengers greater comfort and performance.

In addition to increased passenger capacity, this major technical feat which provides the cities and users a host of advantages has been met thanks to the expertise of RATP Group including reduced intervals between trains from 125 seconds during peak hour to 105 thanks to 32 new MP14 trains, as well as greater availability of staff on the ground to assist the passengers with 100 new station agents and 80 new metro drivers, bringing the total to 200 drivers.

The project delivers enhanced activity zones and facilities and enhanced accessibility standards for people with reduced mobility, as well as enhanced comfort conditions, thanks to a 40% reduction in noise pollution.

The extension of line 11 greatly simplifies the daily travel of the 1.6 million inhabitants from Seine-Saint-Denis.

The extension and modernisation of Paris Line 11, an East-Center axis of the city’s network, complete the network of Seine-Saint-Denis (Eastern suburbs) and the transport offer where it was lacking.

Carrying 110 000 commuters every day to the Center of Paris in the past, the extension will open up the service to an additional 80,000 people.

The extension is a new step towards an increasingly interconnected Île-de-France metro network with numerous connections and which facilitates journeys from suburb to suburb to save time and comfort for Ile-de-France residents.
