The Oman Railway Company has put out invitations to pre-qualify for a tender to design and build the Sohar – Buraimi stretch of the Oman Railway Network (ORN) linking the port of Sohar with the border of the UAE. Submissions must be in by the 21st December.
The construction will come in three sections – 1A will be 127 kms between Sohar Station and the border at Al Buraimi and will pass through the mountains, along the route of the current motorway parallel with Wadi al Jizzi. Section 1B will be a 37 km spur line connecting the border with Al Buraimi station while 1C will be 38 km long and adjoin Sohar Port to the main line (Section 1A). Finally, an 8 km length will be built at junctions between 1A, 1B and 1C.
