O&M contract extended for Miami Skytrain APM

Miami Skytrain APMMiami-Dade Aviation Department extended the operation and maintenance contract with Crystal Mover Services (CMSI) for the Miami Skytrain APM system serving the North Terminal (Concourse D) at Miami International Airport (MIA).

The contract covers a 5-year period commencing January 2022, with an option for up to 5 years. This new contract also covers the renewal of the signalling system and other equipment of the APM systems, including the manufacture and supply of two additional vehicles.

CMSI is a joint venture comprising Sumitomo Corporation of Americas, Sumitomo Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America (MHIA).

23 years ago, the two companies won the contract to construct the 1.1 km Miami Skytrain APM and its four stations. CMSI has provided operations and maintenance (O&M) services for the APM system since the line went into operation in September 2010, achieving a safe and reliable transport system with a high operating ratio.

The current system is operated by 20 4-car trainsets, and the newly ordered vehicles included in this contract will further enhance the Skytrain’s transport capacity for the future. The system runs on a guideway on the roof of the councourse with 4 stations and a dedicated offline maintenance facility providing for all vehicle inspections, servicing and overhauls.

In addition, the Miami-based joint venture has been servicing all of the MHI APM systems in the United States, eight of which currently operating at five major U.S. airports Miami International, Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta, Orlando International, Tampa International, and Washington Dulles.
