After a first series of trial and test drives in Austria, the first of 30 multi-system Vectron locomotives built by Siemens for ÖBB was transferred to Villach. All 30 locomotives of the first tranche are to be delivered to Villach. For this reason, the instructors immediately began training at the site in order to be able to start operating the new vehicles as soon as possible. Additional training programs will start in the coming months.
The new locomotives will be used for cargo transport not only in Austria but also internationally. The framework agreement concluded after an international tender with Siemens includes the delivery of 200 locomotives in three different variants: in addition to the multi-system locomotives for the European AC and DC networks, ÖBB can also order AC locomotives with and without “last mile drive”. This allows ÖBB a high level of flexibility when ordering new locomotives. The locomotives have a top speed of 160 km / h.
