Australian company 4Tel won two contracts awarded by Downer EDI for the implementation of two contracts on the signalling systems for the Newcastle light rail project in New South Wales.
The contracts include the supply and installation of signals, controls and communications for the project.
Downer EDI has been engaged as the managing contractor to build light rail in Newcastle on behalf of Transport for NSW.
The Newcastle light rail project includes the construction of a 2.7 km line from Newcastle Interchange at Wickham to Pacific Park in Newcastle East, following the old rail corridor for approximately one-third of the route before moving onto Hunter and Scott streets. The project was approved in August 2016 and major construction started in September 2017. It will be put into service in 2019.
