Newag has concluded a contract with PKP Cargo concerning the modernization of 60 diesel locomotives of the SM48 series (15 D/A type). The contract also foresees the provision of maintenance services for the internal combustion engines and additional services.
The modernized locomotives will be turned into the ST48 series type following the construction of a new body, replacement of brake apparatus and power generator, as well as machinery and auxiliary equipment. Modernization will also include the driver’s cab, which will be equipped with a modern control system and will become more ergonomic.
The modernization works will be performed in 2018-2021. The total estimated value of the contract is approximately PLN 388 million (EUR 92.3 million) net.
