Poland’s regional tram operator Silesian Tramways (TS) has awarded a deal for the supply of 12 low-floor trams to local rolling stock producer Modertrans, based in Poznan. The purchase is worth about PLN58.3 million (EUR 14 million).
The first of 12 Moderus trams, supplied by Modertrans, is undergoing tests at the manufacturer’s plant in Poznan in preparation for the introduction of the fleet on the standard-gauge network around Katowice this autumn.
According to the tender terms, Silesian Tramways will acquire two-direction trams which were fitted with a length of between 26 and 29 metres, and a width of between 235 and 240 cm. The trams are to have a capacity of at least 170 passengers, including 30 seats.
The selected bidder is scheduled to launch deliveries of the rolling stock in March 2015, and supply the last tram by the end of May 2015. The acquired rolling stock is to have at least 20% of low-floor space, according to the tram operator.
