New trains for Emilia-Romagna region

emiliaItalian Infrastructure Minister Graziano Delrio announced plans to invest in the acquisition of new trains for Emilia-Romagna region.
The contract signed in 2015 between Emilia Romagna authorities and Trenitalia – Trasporto Passeggeri Emilia-Romagna JV includes a deal for the acquisition of 96 new trains, a project that needs a EUR 750 million investment.
The JV confirmed that 22 of new trains will be delivered in 2017, under a EUR 150 million agreement. The first delivery tranche consists in 14 Stadler ETR 350 Flirt EMUs and 8 five-car sets of Vivalto push-pull double-deck coaches produced by Hitachi Rail Italy.
The first 7 new trains will be deployed on Porrettana line this April, 2 trains will be put into operation on Bologna-Portomaggiore line and  2 other trains, on Bologna-Vignola line. The 7 Stadler ETR 350 Flirt EMUs and Hitachi’s coaches are financed by the Regione Emilia-Romagna.
‘Between 2018 and 2019, we intend to renew all trains that are operating on Emilia-Romagna railway network. The renewal project of the entire rolling stock fleet needs a EUR 750 million. In the last years, the region allocated EUR 250 million for the acquisition of new rolling stock. The EUR 1 billion total funds are allocated only for the new rolling stock in Regione Emilia-Romagna,’ Regional Minister for Infrastructure Raffaele Donini said.
