The second and third trains of the new monorail fleet for São Paulo’s Metro Line 15-Prata have arrived at Pátio Oratório, marking another step in the city’s transport expansion. The latest train was delivered last Wednesday (26), following a complex logistical operation from the Port of Santos, while the second train had already arrived the previous Friday (21).
Part of a BRL 1.4 billion (USD 250 million) investment by the São Paulo government, the new fleet includes 19 trains aimed at improving mobility in the East Zone. A fourth train has already departed from Shanghai and is expected to reach Brazil in March, with deliveries continuing until 2026.
At Pátio Oratório, each train undergoes a 20-day assembly process, followed by dynamic and static testing before entering service. The new fleet, supplied by the CEML Consortium (Alstom and CRRC), features automated operation (UTO), onboard camera monitoring, LED lighting, and intelligent energy management.
Alongside the fleet expansion, Metro Line 15-Prata is extending in both directions. Construction is underway for the Boa Esperança and Jacu Pêssego stations in the east, while in the west, work has begun on the Ipiranga station, which will connect to CPTM Line 10-Turquoise. The extensions, adding a total of 4.8 km, are expected to be completed by 2027.
The additional trains will support increased capacity and service improvements, aligning with the expansion of Line 15-Prata and enhancing passenger comfort and safety.
