Bombardier Transportation unveiled that Deutsche Bahn is the undisclosed customer that had signed in December 2018 the EUR 437 million contract for Stuttgart S-Bahn trains which will have a new design.
Under the agreement between 58 additional BR 430 series trains will be delivered which will create a total 155 fleet of same series trains.
The contract is for 58 additional BR 430 series S-Bahn trains for the Stuttgart region.
Recently, DB introduced the new exterior design of the S-Bahn fleet, featuring visual cues to guide passengers on the platform towards the appropriate sections of the train.
“We are happy that Deutsche Bahn and the Association of the Region Stuttgart once again opted for the BR 430 series to expand the range of services on their S-Bahn network,” said Bruno Poschmann, the Head of Portfolio Deutsche Bahn at Bombardier Transportation.
The majority of the new Stuttgart S-Bahn trains will be delivered in the new exterior design. The 97 trains of the same series already in passenger service in the Stuttgart region are fully compatible with the new trains, enabling all trains in this series to be coupled together.
In addition, the train drivers will find the new vehicles’ driver cab and control system identical to the trains they are currently operating, eliminating the need for additional training.
They trains are highly eco-friendly and fitted with intelligent energy management that recaptures the excess energy typically lost while braking and uses otherwise wasted heat from their power converters and transformers to heat the vehicles’ interior.
The new BR 430 series trains provide passengers increased reliability, comfort and safety while in transit. The free-barrier trains offer complete visibility from end to end and are equipped with air-conditioning system and video surveillance which increases passenger safety.
The trains also feature wide multi-purpose areas and a modern passenger information system that displays information on connecting trains in real time.
The S-Bahn trains of the same vehicle type are also operating in the Frankfurt Rhine-Main area.
