The Russian local company PK Transportnye Systemy was the only one to submit an offer in the bid for the delivery of a new 13-tram lot in Rostov-on-Don, the port city and the administrative center of the Rostov province in the southern part of Russia.
The offer submitted by PK Transportnye Systemy had a value of RUB 426.4 million (USD 7 million) and the order will be funded by the Rostov province administration.
In 2016, the Russian rolling stock manufacturer also delivered another 16 City Star trams to Rostov-on-Don. The value of this first order amounted to RUB 524.8 million (USD 8.7 million).
The latest order will now allow Rostov-on-Don to remove all old, hard-to-reach high-floor trams and operate with a 100% low-floor uniform tram fleet.
City Star trams are 16.5 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, with the capacity to carry 170 passengers.
An interesting fact is that the Rostov-on-Don tramway network is the only 1435 mm standard gauge in Russia, a country where all rail transport is carried out on a 1520 mm broad gauge.
