The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has fined Network Rail for problems with the timetabling and poor planning of the upgrades that caused severe disruption at London Bridge station. The value of the fine is £2m (EUR 2.8 million). According to ORR, Network Rail made repeated mistakes in timetabling services to and from London Bridge station and failed to collaborate with train operators.
As a consequence, Southern and Govia Thameslink Railway missed their punctuality targets for commuter routes serving London Bridge last year. Not only London Bridge station was affected, but also Scotland rail services.
“Our analysis shows that the company needs to develop a much better understanding of the impact of timetabling on the reliability of services and on rail users. These serious issues have caused severe disruption and frustration for passengers, most notably affecting services at and around London Bridge,” The ORR chief executive, Richard Price, said
