Public Inquiry Committee on Bordeaux-Toulouse and Bordeaux-Dax high-speed lines projects gave an unfavorable opinion for the declaration of public utility of these projects. Projects surveys were conducted at the end of 2014 and sections of the first phase were assessed.
The Committee’s decision is explained by the fact that many local communions oppose the trains’ path and neither of the categories interviewed (companies, unions, associations, local authorities) declared a favorable majority for the project. The Committee also pointed out that the transport service is not guaranteed in the project because it will be determined later by SNCF’s own criteria. In addition, funding is questionable because many of the local authorities already do not respect their commitments for high speed projects and the state reduced the funds allocated to the regions. The Committee also said that the socio-economic productivity of the project is also insufficient.
The two sections would extend the Tours-Bordeaux high-speed line, which will be ready in 2017.
