Moscow has started the construction of a pedestrian tunnel that will connect the MCD-1 and MCD-4 stations. Testovskaya station of the future MCD-4 is a new suburban station, which is being created from scratch as part of the existing eponymous hub. With its opening, passengers will have another convenient interchange to the new overground metro line and the opportunity to build new through routes to the 7 central stations.
The 30-metre long pedestrian tunnel will be located near the Moscow International Business Center. It will connect the current MCD-1 and the new MCD-4 at the Testovskaya transport hub. For today the basis of the future tunnel is already established: spans, and bridge safety bags will provide traffic safety on the MCC during all time of tunnel building. After the work completion, passengers will have a new interchange from one diameter to another, and it will also be possible to make an interchange here with the Mezdunarodnaya station of the metro Line 4 and Delovoy Tsenter of the MCC. It will be more convenient for employees of nearby offices and residents of the Kamushki district to get to the hub.
“The trains on the new transport artery MCD-4 will run by this year and for this purpose, the existing infrastructure is being renovated and new infrastructure is being built. Testovskaya station will not only be part of the convenient hub, connecting different modes of urban transport, but will also be the highest station of the future MCD-4 with a panoramic view” Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport said.
The number of passengers on the MCD for 2022 increased by 6.4% compared to the last year. In the previous year, the first and second Diameters carried 182 million people, 11 million more than in 2021. And comparing the average daily flow in December 2022 versus the flow at the MCD launch (November 2019), this represents an increase of 20%.
Passengers choose the MCD because of the short headways, comfortable trains and convenient fare system – interchange to metro and the MCC with Troika card from the MCD is free. This year, we also expect an increase in traffic on the MCD after the MCD-3 and MCD-4 launch, which will be used by more than 1 million people per day.
