Moscow to acquire 150 trams

Moscow tram fleetMoscow tram fleet is in continuing renewal, the municipality’s authorities announced, mentioning that modern low-floor vehicles are operating on 90% of the tram routes. By 2025, Moscow intends to purchase 150 more new generation of low-floor trams.

Only for the last six years, more than 500 modern trams of the latest generation have been delivered to Moscow and now the average age of the trams has been reduced to 4 years.

Today, more than 450 three-section Vityaz-Moskva trams operate on the routes. These are new generation trams, comfortable for all passengers, with a completely low floor, climate control system, multimedia screens with useful information for passengers, as well as connectors for charging mobile devices.

The latest models add illuminated doors and bicycle and pram bindings. Each three-section tram accommodates up to 260 passengers, three times more than a conventional bus or electric bus. There are 70 seats in the passenger compartment.

Now only modern low-floor trams serve 31 out of 35 Moscow tram routes. The capital’s tram fleet has about 700 cars.

All new trams are constructed in Russia, and they are delivered under the life cycle contract which stipulates that the manufacturer provides a stable work of trams, their maintenance and repair during 30 years.

Starting 2025, Moscow tram fleet of new generation will operate on the entire network. “In Moscow, only fully low-floor trams will run on the routes. They are convenient for everyone: especially for people with disabilities, the elderly and passengers with children. In addition, these models are quiet and smooth, the travel is much more comfortable and safer,” Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport, said.

In addition, 30 tram switches in Moscow will be equipped with smart control systems. Trams will move faster and journeys will be even safer thanks to the upgraded infrastructure and facilities. There are plans to provide all arrows with a smart control system by the end of 2025.
