Moscow receives 44 new generation trains

Ivolga 3.0 trainsMoscow has received 44 new generation Ivolga 3.0 trains, with 11 modern car trains being currently tested without passengers. These trials show how the operation of all equipment and communication systems of the train is being checked.

Some of the new trains have already completed running-in period. Ivolga 3.0 trains will run on the future MCD-3 and MCD-4. During the train acceptance process, the Moscow Metro places high demand on the rolling stock quality, its convenience and safety for the future passengers.

These trains are being purchased by the Moscow Metro using an infrastructure loan allocated in October 2021 by the Russian Government, including for the purchase of trains for prospective diameters. The second loan was approved in July 2022. Their total amount is more than RUB 106 billion (USD 1.67 billion). These funds will also be used to purchase cars for sections of metro lines under construction, including for the BCL.

“The rolling stock renewal is an important part of the work on the new MCD-3 and MCD-4, both of which will be launched on behalf of the Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin by 2023. Infrastructure loans make it possible to actively renew rolling stock for new transport arteries. This important decision not only contributes to the development of the rail framework of the Moscow region, but also makes it possible to develop the national economy. This is a significant support for Russian manufacturers, enabling them to secure new orders and preserves their jobs,” Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport said.

The new Ivolga 3.0 trains are 100% Russian-made and are produced at the Tver Carriage Works, part of Transmashholding. It is more convenient than the previous models providing seat armrests, more USB chargers and electric scooters chargers. It will also be possible to carry bicycles with wide wheels in bicycle mounts. All the comfortable services of the previous Ivolga have been preserved including wide doors. There is enough space in the cabin to put a wheelchair. In addition, there are places for passengers with disabilities.

Rolling stock renewal for the MCD-3 and MCD-4 is ongoing. Transmashholding has delivered another 5 new EP2D trains to the Central Exurban Passenger Company in preparation for the MCD-3 launch.
