Moscow MCDs to be opened this month

Sergei Sobyanin, the Moscow Mayor, has announced that at the end of November, transport services on the first two diameters will be launched. The statement was made after the mayor, together with the Governor of Moscow Region, Andrei Vorobyov, and the Chairman Russian Railways, Oleg Belozyorov, have inspected the progress of the project.
“We have been hard at work on the launch of MCD-1 and MCD-2. Reconstruction of running railway tracks and stations is underway. And most importantly, our colleagues present new Ivolga trains, upgraded to run along MCD,” the Moscow Mayor said.
MCD-1, from Odintsovo to Lobnya and MCD-2, linking Nakhabino with Podolsk, will have a total length of 132 km, served by 57 stations, and, by the selected extensions, the lines will have 66 stations, of which 19 will provide transport access to the metro an MCC system. The first diameter lines will improve transport services for four million residents of Moscow and the Moscow region.
39 Ivolga trains will operate the diameter lines, along with regular commuter trains. They are to provide some 900,000 new passenger seats per day. This means that Moscow and the region will have a new mode of transport, providing almost the same speed and comfort as the metro.
Troika Travel Card will be used for payment, which will be split into three tariff zones. Thanks to the new tariffs with free transfers, passengers are to save up to 50% of travel costs, with Moscow region residents saving up to 75%.
