Morocco unveils plan for two new high speed lines “Casablanca-Marrakech-Agadir” and “Casablanca-Fez-Oujda”.
The announcement was made by the Director General of the Moroccan Railway Company ONCF, Mohamed Rabie Khlie, during a press conference related to high speed line “Tangiers-Casablanca” work progress.
Currently, the “Tangiers-Casablanca” works reached 78%, all components together. The first line should be operational in the first quarter of 2018. Mobilizing a budget of 20 billion dirhams (USD 2 billion), it will connect Tangier to Casablanca (350 km ) in 2h10 instead of 4h45 today, the local media reports.
Meanwhile, “studies are launched on two new high speed lines”, Mohamed Rabie Khlie said.
The second high speed line, called the ‘Atlantic line’, will depart from Tangier to Casablanca via Marrakech and Essaouira to finally serve Agadir. The third, called “North line”, will follow the route Casablanca, Rabat, Fez and Oujda.
